12 Dec 2009

This day started off like most others.  Dad stayed in bed a bit.  Mom turned on the TV thing.  I slithered up on the bed quietly to schnuggle with dad.  I was dreaming of breakfast, I hope it's not late.  That line is from a favorite poem dad reads to me sometimes.

I woke up this morning and kissed my dad's head.
Then I peed on the carpet, and went back to bed.
"The life of a puppy, oh boy, this is great."
Now I'm dreaming of breakfast, "I hope it's not late."

Mom and dad got up.  I stayed in bed until mom made me go outside.  When I came back in it was breakfast time.  Oh - I'm a happy dog - a happy happy dog.... I get my breakfast.  The rest of the day was the usual doggie stuff.  Some playing in the back yard, some sleeping on the doggie-bed in dad's radio room, some chewing on the yummy bones I have.

Late in the afternoon mom started getting things packed in the dog-show van.  I saw her grab my green training bag, so I knew I was going somewhere.  I'm a lucky dog - a lucky lucky dog.... I am going somewhere.  Dad put this strange collar on me, it had bells on it.  Then I moved the bells would jingle.  It was weird, but whatever.... lets GO!

Mom loaded Daisy and I in the van.  Dad and James got in, and we were on the road.  We got on I-10 and I thought we were headed for Karen's place for dog training.  I like dog training.  But we didn't stop, we got on a different road called I-25 and we drove further.  When we slowed down and got off I-25 the sign said Radium Springs.  Wherever that is.....

We went to a place called Fort Selden.  It was getting dark, and there were these paper bags all along the walking paths.  The bags had some kind of light in them.  I tried to sniff one, but dad pulled me back and warned me that it was hot.  OK dad, I don;'t want to burn my nose.

We got inside the building.  There were people in there, and a tree like the ones I saw in the forest inside the building.  I think it is called a PINE tree. It had some funny stuff hanging from it.  And then I remembered - it was a Christmas tree.  We had one of those in the house last year.  I wrote about it in my December 15, 2008 Dog-Blog.  Fort Selden had a Christmas Tree inside. Then I saw Little Bobby the Skin Puppy, and Heidi.  Oh - we are going to have FUN.  Mom tried to make some photos of us, but Daisy and I were too excited to stand still.  So after a bit we went outside.

Outside it was very dark now.  There were lots of those bag-lights all over, and we started walking down the pathways lighted by the bag lights.  I could smell smoke in the air.  It smelled like when dad makes a fire in the fireplace.  I like that smell.  We walked for a bit and we found some rangers lighting the bags.  There are candles inside the bags, and the rangers were having trouble keeping some of them lit.

After a while we came to a spot in a big field where there was a wagon and a camp fire.  People were standing around the fire.  And there was Keith.  I like Keith, he pets me and rubs my ears.  Keith nad a silver stick.  Mom took out a bag of something called Marsh Mellows, and they started burning them on the fire and then eating them.  Everyone had some.  I tried one, but I didn't like it. It was too sticky.  Mom made dad set up the camera and we made some photos by the wagon.  But it was getting late, and colder.  So we went back to the van for the trip home.  Daisy and I took a nap on the way back.

At home mom made our doggie-dinners ready.  After a night in the field at Fort Senden I was pretty hungry.  So I gobbled down my dinner, and with a full tummy I went back to sleep.  It was another great doggie-day.  Good night.
