I have noticed a pattern in our lives here.  Dad leaves the house early for five days, then he stays home for two days.  This pattern repeats over and over. Except sometimes the pattern is interrupted and dad stays home an extra day. Those days when dad stays home unexpectedly are usually something special.  By that I mean something special happens.  We go hiking or to a dog show, or visitors come over.  Today was one of those days.  It was supposed to be the fourth day for dad to leave early.  But dad didn't get up early, he stayed in bed.  Oh - I didn't mind... I got to climb in the bed and schnuggle with dad. That is always fun too.

After a while mom got up and let us dogs out.  I got to go out too.  When I came back in it was doggie breakfast time.  Oh-yummy... Breakfast - my FAVORITE!  Dad gave me my breakfast and I ate it all down quick.  Mom started working in the kitchen while dad was cleaning up in the dining room.  Sometimes dad has so much stuff going on that he works on his work bench and on the dining room table too. But mom told him he had to get it all put away by 3-o'clock.  So dad was busy.
I followed dad around while he worked.  Dad does some really interesting stuff sometimes.

I was so busy watching dad that I was not paying much attention to mom.  Mom was cooking.  She was cooking a lot.  The kitchen started to smell really good. Well - dad's work wasn't really all that interesting.  And mom has FOOD!  So I went to watch mom for a while.  I laid down on the dining room floor with my nose on the kitchen floor.  I laid there like I was weak.  Sometimes I would sigh a deep long sigh, and I kept working my eyes from mom to what mom was doing and back to mom.  I patiently did this a while, then mom tossed me a bit of something, and I gobbled it up.

WOW - I know that taste.  It's TURKEY.  Today must be that thanksgiving holiday again.  I remember it last year, and I wrote about it in my blog on 27 Nov 2008. I was only 2 months old then.  I am much older now, I am 14 months.  So its Thanksgiving.  I'm a happy dog - a happy happy dog.... it's THANKSGIVING.  That means lots of visitors and lots of good food and a GREAT doggie-dinner.  I can't wait.  Well - nothing succeeds like success, so I kept sighing and working my eyes.  Mom tossed me a bit from time to time.  Dad called me an unfaithful dog. I'll get back to you later dad - mom has food.

Mom started the oven and put that giant turkey in it.  The house really started to smell great.  All us dogs were getting excited.  Uncle Justin started chanting Turkey - Turkey - Turkey, like he did last year.  My dog-mom Sammy and my sister Daisy were excited too.  The only one who was not really really happy was Grandma Quiver.  Grandma Quiver has been getting sick.  When she eats, she gets sick, and she has been losing weight.  And she is always hungry.  I love Grandma Quiver, and I am a little worried about her.

After a bit Heidi and Keith came to visit with Bobby the Skin Puppy.  I got to play with Bobby a little, and he shared his cookies with me.  I like Bobby. Then Reiner and Paul came over for a visit.  They all sat watching that TV thing while mom kept checking on the turkey.  Reiner started making some kind of drink that had glue in it.  They called it Glue Whine.  It didn't smell that great to me, but everyone except dad had some.  Then I got put in my bed.  I'm a sad sad puppy - I got put in my bed.  I could tell by the sounds that they were cutting up the turkey and eating.  Grandma Quiver told me to be patient, because the sooner they finish the sooner we get to eat.  Ok - I'll try to be patient.

After a while I heard the party starting to break up.  Keith and Heidi left first with Bobby, then Paul and Reiner left too.  Awww - we didn't get to play with Reiner this time.  After a while my human-brother James came around and collected up the dog-food dishes.  I got let out of my bed again, so I got to watch mom and dad making the dog food.  And it smelled great.  Mom and dad made a really fantastic dinner for all of us dogs.  Dad went around with mom to feed all the dogs, and he wished each of them a happy thanksgiving.  Then dad fed me last.  When he set down my dish he wished me a happy thanksgiving and kissed me on the head.  Happy Thanksgiving to you too dad... now let me eat - please.

I had a full belly, and I drifted off to sleep in dad's radio room.  Dad was checking E-mail.  I heard Grandma Quiver getting sick again, and mom let her out.  Poor Grandma Quiver didn't get to enjoy her turkey dinner very long.  I am so worried about her.  Then it was bed-time.  Mom put all the dogs to bed.  I followed dad around checking the doors and turning off the lights like dad does every night.  It was a mighty fine doggie day.  If only Uncle Parker could have been here, it would have been perfect.

Well - Turkey makes me sleepy - time for bed.  More soon.
